Podcast

I never knew what a Podcast was until I started this course. Digital tool three was a podcast and after exploring what it was and how it is used I have thoughts and ideas about how this could be used effectively in the 21st century classroom. At first I thought a podcast was only used to download music, however, podcasting allows students to become creative rather than just consumers of online content.
A podcast is a series of digital media files that are either audio or video that are released episodically and downloaded. I feel podcasts would be effective in the primary classroom and extend our students learning as technology generates new interest into classroom content- students will be engaged. Great for visual and audio learners. Students being able to download or share current audio or video recordings allows students to feel proud and confident about their published work and allows students to also download content. Teachers, again, must be active and stay on top of the online downloads to clarify that what is being shared and downloaded is educational and safe.

I have never seen this incorporated into the classroom setting, and I believe it would be difficult however with much experience I am sure this tool would be an engaging, hands on material that students would love to use!

In all their forms, podcasts have become a popular classroom activity during the past five years—iTunes is now populated with streams from hundreds of K–12 schools across the country. Some student
podcasts are simply recorded versions of history or book reports. But today, podcasts coming from the classroom are frequently much more creative and ambitious team efforts (Lewin, 2oo9)

What are your ideas?
